Indonesia's chairman of Consultative Assembly meets China's counterpart

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Indonesia's Consultative Assembly Zulkifli Hasan met with his Chinese counterpart Chen Xiauguang on Tuesday, December 9. The meeting talked on strengthening relationship between two parliaments in terms of social, culture and politics.

"We would like to elevate strategic relations to become more comprehensive," Hasan said on Tuesday, December 9.

Xiauguang stated that his arrival in Indonesia was to pay President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo a visit to China during APEC. He explained that Jokowi and Chinese President reached agreement on strategic relations.

"Indonesia and China is two big emerging countries in Asia. We have the interest to develop Indonesia and China," Xiauguang said. He expects both countries to cooperate in politics, economics, and social. He admitted that China prioritized Indonesia in its diplomatic policy.

Hasan and Xiauguang also talked on maritime issue. During APEC meeting, Jokowi emerged his maritime-axis vision, including his plan to build sea toll. "The idea is similar to ours, which is 21th century maritime silk road," he said.
