REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo granted clemency for a woman activist named Eva Susanti Bande during Mother's Day. Bande was sentenced to four years after being convicted for provocation.
"I granted clemency to a woman activist who struggled for agrarian rights in Central Sulawesi. She is Eva Susanti Bande," Jokowi said during Mother's Day Celebration on Monday, December 22.
Bande is a human right activist who was sentenced to four years as she allegedly conducted provocation between people and palm oil company. "Do not let woman activist who fight for people's right get sentenced," Jokowi said, adding that government had to be more focus on defending women's rights.
