Repatriation of Air Asia victims awaits identification

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsoedi stated that repatriation of the bodies killed in Air Asia flight QZ8501 crash would wait for identification. The ill-fated aircraft carried seven foreign nationals from South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and France.

"Operator will manage the repatriation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will inform related embassy," Minister Marsoedi said on Tuesday, January 6.

The ministry will inform related embassy after Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) identifies the victims through post-mortem and ante-mortem examination. "After they identify the victims, we will be involved," she said.

Air Asia QZ8501 crashed into the Java Sea on December 28. It carried 162 people from Surabaya to Singapore. About 37 bodies have been recovered, 13 of them have been identified.
