REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that the rainy season in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas will peak by the end of January 2015.

"We predict that the peak of the rainy season in Jabodetabek will occur in the last ten days of January until the initial ten days of February," BMKG's Head of Public Information, Fachri Radjab, stated here on Tuesday (6/1).

Radjab explained that the rainfall during January, which reaches 300 to 500 millimeters, is categorized as high, but is not yet close to the peak season that is forecast to occur in January-February.

The rainy season will peak in January-February but currently, 96 percent of a total of 342 season zones in Indonesia have entered the rainy season.

Thus, the BMKG has cautioned the public and officials to be vigilant regarding the imminent threat of landslides and flooding, particularly in vulnerable areas, including floods that might inundate Jakarta in January-February.

For Tuesday (Jan. 6), the BMKG has forecast light to medium rain showers in the Jabodetabek area.
