Fadli Zon to lead Indonesian delegation in APPF meeting

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy House Speaker Fadli Zon is set to lead the Indonesian parliamentary delegation to the 23rd annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) to be held in Quito, Ecuador, on January 9-17.

As chief of the delegation, Fadli Zon will be accompanied by deputy chief of the delegation Nurhayati Ali Assegaf who is chief of the Inter-Parliament Cooperation Board (BKSAP) and BKSAP Deputy Chief Teguh Juwarno, the House of Representatives (DPR) public relations service noted in a press statement released on Tuesday (6/1).

Other BKSAP members who will join the delegation are S.B. Wiryanti Sukamdani, Indro Hananto, Rachel Maryam Sayidina, Abdul Kadir Karding, and Muhammad Arief Suditomo.

The delegation will also include seven members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

The Quito meeting will discuss four key topics: firstly, cooperation for advancing freedom, peace, democracy, and prosperity; secondly, open and exclusive cooperation for the expansion of free trade and investment, and sustainable and environmentally friendly development; thirdly, non-military cooperation for matters regarding peace and regional security; and fourthly, preservation and promotion of the external and internal cultural exchanges among the people of the region.

Initiated by former Japanese prime minister Yasuhiro Nakasone in 1993, the APPF is a non-exclusive inter-parliamentary cooperation forum in the Asia-Pacific region.

Currently, the APPF is made up of 27 countries, including Indonesia.

The APPF is a forum for members of the parliament to discuss issues of common concern and share experiences across varied fields.

The forum focuses on building cooperation to promote peace, freedom, democracy, welfare, trade and investment, sustainable development, and non-military cooperation.
