REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the East Java provincial police has identified 16 of 37 bodies of the victims of the AirAsia flight that crashed in the Karimata Strait.
"Until now, we have identified 16 of 37 bodies of the passengers of AirAsia flight QZ 8501," chief of the DVI team Snr. Comsr. Budiyono said in a press statement released on Tuesday (6/1).
On Tuesday, the team identified the bodies of three passengers Indra Yulianto from Probolinggo, Indarto Halim and Jou Brian Youfito, both from Surabaya in East Java.
The remains of 51-year-old Indra Yulianto has been identified through a primary method that showed similarities between the antemortem data provided by his relatives and the postmortem data verified by the postmortem team, Budiyono noted.
"There have also been primary data such as fingerprints. Fingerprints issued by a team from the Indonesian Police Headquarters has been identical to that of the e-ktp database. The primary data was supported by secondary identification data based on medical data," he added.
According to Budiyono, the body of 61-year-old Indarto Halim has been identified based on the result of a dental checkup that showed his antemortem data identical to postmortem data.
The body of 19-year-old Jou Brian Youfito has been identified through primary identification, which has been identical to his dental odontogram, and through similarities between his antemortem and postmortem data, he added.
"Based on the dental primary data and medical secondary data as well as his property, the body with code number B026 no doubt belongs to 19-year-old man Jou Brian Youfito from Surabaya," he stated.
AirAsia flight QZ8501 carrying 162 people on board went missing on December 28 en route from Surabaya, East Java, to Singapore.
The ill-fated plane is believed to have crashed in the Java Sea near the Karimata Strait, some 95 nautical miles from Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan.
