REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PANGKALAN BUN -- Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) confirmed that the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of AirAsia QZ8501 has been recovered.

KNKT Chief Tatang Kurniadi, accompanied by Air Force Operation Commander I. Agus Dwi Putranto and Commander of the Western Fleet Command Commodore Widodo, flew from the Iskandar Air Force Base in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, to the navy ship KRI Banda Aceh to reconfirm it, at 2:50 p.m. local time, on Tuesday (13/1).

He earlier stated that the CVR had been recovered and was now on board the KRI Banda Aceh ship, but reconfirmation had yet to be done to ensure that it belongs to the AirAsia QZ8501 aircraft.

"The CVR physically is there, but who knows the plane also carried the same equipment, but did not install it. So, it must first be checked. We must be patient," he remarked.

He admitted to have personally checked the CVR and identified its serial number.

"I must be very careful because it has to do with information regarding an accident," he said.

Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan also stated that the CVR had yet to be identified to prove that it belongs to the AirAsia QZ8501 aircraft.

He said the CVR had been retrieved from the sea bed and was currently aboard the KRI Banda Aceh ship.

"It would be brought here to have its serial number checked," he stated before leaving the Iskandar Air Base for visiting the Panglima Utar seaport here on Tuesday.

Jonan arrived in Pangkalan Bun to check the doomed aircraft's tail section, which had been retrieved and taken to the warehouse of PT Pelindo III at Panglima Utar Port.
