Govt to build marine technopark in East Kalimantan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government has decided to expedite the construction of the maritime technology facilitator site, or marine technopark, in Penajam, North Penajam Paser district, East Kalimantan.

A press release received by Antara here on Friday stated that Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency Andrinof Chaniago and Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Indroyono Susilo held a meeting during which they agreed to expedite the construction of the technopark.

Some countries, including France, are interested to join in the development of the technopark in Penajam.

The meeting between Chaniago and Susilo on Thursday (Feb 12) also decided to expedite all maritime-infrastructure projects so the country can benefit from them in the next three years.

Besides the technopark construction, the settling of maritime boundary issues with neighboring countries, settling of the continental shelf matter, resolving the exclusive economic zone boundary, and the 350-mile of extension zone were also discussed during the meeting.

The marine technopark will function as the center of marine technology, the base for Indonesian research ships, and the offshore oil and gas industry.
