REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU -- The Statistics Office (BPS) of Bengkulu said 352 village areas/kelurahans, the lowest level of government administration area, in the province have no schools even one equal in level to elementary schools.
"The information is needed to to support the government's program for rural development," head of the regional statistics agency Dodi Herlando said here on Tuesday.
Bengkulu has 1,532 kelurahans and around 22.98 percent of the villages areas have no schools, Dodi said.
"The survey on village potentials is to see development of rural economy and education sector is important as low level of education would make it difficult for the people to improve their welfare," he said.
The whole province has only 1,180 elementary schools or educational centers equal to elementary school, he said.
In North Sulawesi Utara , there are still sub-districts (Kecamatan), which have no senior high school (SLTA).
Head of the North Sulawesi BPS Faizal Anwar said the province has 15 regencies and sub-district areas in seven of the regencies have no SLTA.
"In the regency of Bolaang Mongondouw (Bolmong), there are two kecamatans without SLTA; in the regency of Minahasa, there are three kecamatans, in the regency of Minahasa Tenggara four kecamatans and in the regency of Bolmong Selatan has a kecamatan without SLTA," he said.
In the regency of Kepulauan Sangihe , there are three kecamatans and in the regency of Talaud five kecamatans and in the regency of Sitaro two kecamatans without SLTA.
Only 88.02 percent of 162 kecamatans in North Sulawesi have SLTA, but they all have elementary schools.
