REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has an important role to play in the supervision and management of the country's maritime and fishery sectors, stated Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti.

"The role of the KPK is increasingly needed in preventing corruption crimes and in securing Indonesia's resources in the maritime sector," Minister Susi said here on Tuesday.

After all, different elements in society need to play their respective roles in the sustainable management and supervision of maritime resources.

In this regard, the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) should cooperate with officers of law enforcement institutions such as the KPK. Cooperation of this kind is important and strategic.

The minister noted that the KPK also fully supports the efforts of the KKP in the transparent and clean management of the maritime and fishery sectors.

As a form of support, the KPK has also carried out coordination and supervision at sea of the maritime resources in 34 provinces of the country. This will transform into Indonesia's National Natural Resources Salvaging Movement in the maritime sector.

"With the presence of the national movement, we have extended our gratitude and appreciation to the KPK for its initiative," she remarked.

The minister claimed that various policies adopted by the KKP had been in line with the KPK, particularly policies on the importance of sustainable maritime and fisheries resources management, which aims to improve the people's welfare.

Among the policies adopted by the KKP are those on the formation of a task force to curb illegal fishing and to implement regulations regarding the management of fishery businesses.
