REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Security officers have arrested a student for allegedly carrying 980 ecstasy pills at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in the Riau provincial capital of Pekanbaru.
"It is true that he was arrested last Saturday," airport duty manager Hasnan stated on Sunday (8/3).
Hasnan said the security officers, who were suspicious of the student, searched him as he was about to enter the check-in room at the airport. He was later taken to the isolation room.
The suspect, identified by the initials DA, had hidden the ecstasy pills known as "Happy Five" in his waist belt, he revealed.
Hasnan said the suspect, who is a student of the school of law at Riau University, has been handed over to the police for further questioning.
Director of Drugs Investigation at the Riau Provincial Police Senior Commissioner Hermansyah stated that during the questioning, DA claimed that the ecstasy pills did not belong to him.
The ecstasy pills belonged to his friend who lived at Kelapa Sawit Street in Pekanbaru, Hermansyah noted.
Hermansyah said DA admitted that he was only paid Rp2 million to bring the contraband to Bandung, West Java.
"We suppose that DA is a courier," he added.
