REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Teachers should inculcate honesty and toughness in students, according to Culture, Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Anies Baswedan.
"The key to good education is good teachers, not curriculums or books. Therefore, teachers should instill honesty and toughness in students," the minister stated here on Tuesday (10/3).
He noted that a teacher should not merely teach, he or she should be able to educate and inspire students to build strong characters.
"Teachers should not worry about students' score, so long as they earn it through honest ways," the minister explained.
He also noted that teachers must be able to motivate their students to become good learners who will find opportunities to grow and develop themselves.
According to the minister, honesty is part of character building. If a teacher can only teach students how to become clever and forget to tell them about honesty, it will result in more and more corruption, he stated.
