REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister A. M. Fachir has emphasized on the importance of establishing coordination to implement Indonesian economic diplomacy in Central and East Europe.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Chairman of the Indonesia-Croatia Bilateral Committee George Iwan Marantika here on Wednesday.

Joint synergy among the government, Indonesian missions abroad, and the private sector would help the country take optimum advantage of the potential in Central and East Europe to develop economic and trade cooperation with other countries, he said.

"Indonesia must be able to develop the existing network and footprint in Central and East Europe to draw up a strategy to achieve the concrete target of raising exports and foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia," he stated.

Regions in Central and East Europe, which include 22 countries with a total population of more than 300 million, offered Indonesia a great chance to market its key commodities, such as rubber, coffee, cacao and crude palm oil, he affirmed.

In 2014, Indonesia's trade with central and eastern European regions stood at US$5.17 billion.

In addition, Marantika noted that clear synchronization and guidance related to the national strategy to market products in Central and East Europe would help local businessmen develop the market for their products in the two regions.

"Therefore, I, in my capacity as chairman of the Indonesia-Croatia Bilateral Committee and as part of business agents, am prepared to help create the joint synergy," he remarked.
