REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is seeking to penetrate the strategic industry markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir, who is also head of the Economic Diplomacy Working Group, stated here on Monday that Indonesia's strategic industries need to increase their foothold in non-traditional markets, including the Sub-Saharan African regions.

During a video conference with ten Indonesian ambassadors to African Sub-Saharan countries, Fachir called to step up penetration of the country's strategic industries in the Sub-Saharan African countries in line with the increasing potentials and prospects of the markets, the foreign ministry noted in a press statement.

In line with the increasing quality of products manufactured by domestic strategic industries, he affirmed that several regions had shown interest in the products, thereby opening wider market opportunities.

In view of that, Fachir had urged Indonesian ambassadors and representatives, especially in the Sub-Saharan African regions, to be more proactive in promoting the country's strategic industrial products and seizing market opportunities in the region.

He said some of the country's industrial products such as the CN-235 aircraft, which is manufactured by PT Dirgantara Indonesia, is already been used in several African countries such as Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Senegal while Nigeria has also used guns produced by PT Pindad.

"Several other African countries have also expressed interest to buy products from the two companies," he added.

Fachir emphasized that the Indonesian representatives must also be more aggressive in increasing the volume of trade, especially of products imported by the Sub-Saharan African countries through other countries or parties.

"I hope that the sale of Indonesian products abroad would no longer take place through traders or brokers," he added.
