REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Sea Transport Directorate General will expand 14 of 41 seaports in Southeast Sulawesi this year.
Sea transports is the focus of development of transport sector in the province, Sea Transport Director General Bobby R Mamahit told Antara news agency here on Wednesday.
The 14 ports include the ports of Bungkutoko, Kendari, Bau-Bau, Banabungi-Pasarwajo, Boepinang, Batu Atas, Wanci, Lasalimu, Kolaka, Watunohu, Dawi-Dawi, Pomala, Molawe and Lakara.
The budget for the expansion of the 14 ports is around Rp369.8 billion.
The priority of expansion is for the ports of Bungkutoko and Bau-Bau as other ports are not yet ready with with analysis on environmental impact (Amdal).
Amdal is an important component in the implementaiton of projects, Bobby said.
"It is only days to May . This month Amdal has to be ready Without Amdal, the minister would not give his approval," he said.
Transport Minister Ignasius Jonan said implementation of 10 to 20 percent of the infrastructure projects in the transport sector is difficult on Amdal not ready.
Bobby said more than 50 percent of Rp889 billion budget of Southeast Sulawesi from the 2015 state budget is for the sea transport sector "Being made of islands, more than 50 percent of the budget is for the maritime sector," he said.
He suggested that the port of Bungkutoko should be designed mainly as cargo port and the port of Nusantara Kendari as port for passenger ships.
Therefore, the passenger terminal of the Nusantara Kendari port should be expanded in capacity for 1,500 passengers.
