REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Setya Novanto has expressed appreciation to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo for his initiative to organize the Asian-African Conference's 60th Commemoration in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java Province, April 19-24, 2015.
"I in particular appreciate President Jokowi for his initiative to organize the 60th Commemoration of the Asian-African Conference with a theme of 'Strengthening the South-South Cooperation," Setya Novanto said in his opening remarks of the Asian-African Parliamentarian Conference at Parliament Building, here, Thursday (23/4).
He believed that the conference could find solutions to world problems which have become more complex and need concrete cooperation and targets.
The new strategic Asian and African partnership must be strengthened to help create more peaceful and prosperous future for the nations and peoples of the two continents, he noted.
He said parliaments have crucial roles in international diplomacy, therefore effective communication among parliaments in the two continents must be established to strengthen the roles of parliaments in promoting democracy.
The Indonesian Parliament supported the establishment of World Parliament Forum for Democracy, he said.
The Asian-African Parliamentarian Conference was officially opened by President Jokowi, as part of the AAC's 60th Commemorative events.
