REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Several key values advocated during the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference should be implemented, stated Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
"The key values are prosperity, solidarity, and stability in the Asian-African countries," President Joko Widodo noted while opening the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Conference here on Thursday (23/4).
The president emphasized that implementation of the key values should be shared by the government and parliament.
"I welcome the agenda to be discussed during the session of the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Conference in line with the issues discussed in the Asian-African Conference," the president said.
The issues are related to world peace and prosperity, an increase in the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, and solidarity for Palestine," the president stated.
Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) is scheduled to host the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Conference themed, "Strengthening the Role of Parliaments in South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity" here on Thursday.
Several state officials who will deliver speeches at the meeting are Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Chairperson Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, House Speaker Setya Novanto, Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and Vice Chairmen of the House of Representatives Fadli Zon and Fachri Hamzah, among others.
The forum will discuss various issues including cooperation in promoting development in Asian-African countries, the new Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), and the recognition of Palestine.
Earlier, Chairman of DPR Setya Novanto remarked that during the Asia-Africa Parliament Conference, a special discussion will be held on the independence of Palestine.
According to Novanto, the Asia-Africa Parliamentary Conference is expected to provide the necessary impetus to realize the independence of Palestine.
"We and the people from Asian-African nations will pay the historical debt, which is to liberate Palestine," Novanto emphasized.
He stated that the forum can be a solution to the problems currently faced by the world.
"The Asian-African Partnership can improve the people's future in the two continents," he added.
