REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) reminds President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)to be careful in picking members of the Selection Committee for new leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The president should consider the credibility, integrity and qualification of the persons to make up the selection team, an ICW leader Adnan Topan Husada said here on Tuesday.
"Success in selecting the best candidates to lead KPK is very much determined by the quality of the Selection Team formed by the government. The president needs to tightly select chairman and the members of the Team," Adnand said.
He said the chairman and the members of the team must have clean track record , clean of indications of corruption and has never been implicated in corruption case.
They also must be free of conflict of interest and not ones who have been known to be against anti corruption campaigns by KPK, he added.
"Such as those who have been lawyers defending corruption suspects or become expert witness against KPK," he said.
In addition, chairman and members of the selection team must be independent figures and not member of political party at least for the past five years.
He said the law No.30 of 2002 on KPK rules only conditions and criteria of a candidate for KPK leader , but not regulate conditions and criteria of members and chairman of the selection team for KPK leaders.
The term of office of four of KPK leaders will end in November this year.
KPK have five leaders. One already ended his first term of office earlier and two of the leaders are facing legal case as suspects.
The president, therefore, has installed interim leaders to replace the three.
The president is expected to soon form the team to select new leaders of KPK for the next term.
