REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's humanitarian aid to help victims of magnitude earthquake in Nepal is a form of solidarity of Asian African Conference (AAC), Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said.

Speaking at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport on Wednesday, Retno dispatched the humanitarian and evacuation team of Indonesian government to Nepal.

"The solidarity among Asian African countries is one of the issues we discussed in the AAC several days ago. We are showing this humanitarian aid as a form of solidarity to our brothers and sisters in Nepal." she said.

The Indonesian government sent 69 people from many parties, such as the Foreign Ministry, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and several social organizations.

Of all the team participants, there are 19 people from medical workers, including two general physicians from the military, two anesthetic specialists and two orthopedic specialists.

The Indonesian government is not only sent the team, but the country also sent post-disaster emergency needs, such as tents, blankets, medicines, medical equipment and ready-to-serve foods.

The team has two main missions, which are evacuating the Indonesian citizens in Nepal and delivering the humanitarian aid, Retno said.

"The Indonesian government and people will stand together with government and people of Nepal in these hard times," she stated.

Currently, there are 76 Indonesian citizens in Nepal consisting of 19 permanent residents and 57 tourists, according to Foreign Ministry data.

The death toll from the devastating 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Nepal totaled 4,300 and more than 8,500 people were injured.

It was impossible to tell how many bodies remaining buried, which means that the death toll could rise to well above the 4,349 announced by the country's National Emergency Operation Center on Tuesday morning.

The earthquake, which also triggered a massive avalanche on Mount Everest that killed at least 18 people, was the deadliest to hit Nepal since a 1934 temblor took the lives of more than 10,000 people.
