REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Social Affairs is targeting Indonesia to free prostitution in 2019. To achieve that goal, Ministry of Social Affairs will conduct the launching of the National Movement of free Prostitution in 2015.
Minister of Social Affairs, Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the handling of prostitution is not the only task of the Ministry of Social Affairs. She considered all parties should be involved in combating the dirty business.
"The issue of prostitution must be handled from upstream to downstream,"she said as quoted by website kemsos.go.id on Tuesday, May 12.
Handling prostitution, she said, at least three roots of causes first, namely poverty, ignorance, and morality must be eradicated.
In early May, Khofifah held the coordination meeting about handling of prostitution and homeless. The coordination meeting of prostitution handling was able to formulate at least three important agreements.
First, the local governments who will close the brothels are responsible for the poor people who are affected by the closure. Second, the Ministry of Social Affairs responsible to the former women prostitutes (WTS) to rehabilitate them, the responsibility namely provision to support of productive economic activities, life assurance and cost of repatriation to the area of origin. Third, the launching of the National Movement for free prostitution in 2015 and for Indonesia free of prostitution in 2019.
Based on the data owned by the Ministry of Social Affairs, in the last three years the government has rehabilitated 5,000 ex WTS from various localization throughout Indonesia. By 2015, the Director General of Social Rehabilitation of Social Incompatibility targets will handle 1,000 WTS.
Undeniably, there is prostitution in almost all regions of Indonesia. Moreover, the police recently uncovered a number of prostitution cases, from online prostitution, prostitution in apartments, to prostitution involving the artist.
The facts indicate that prostitution in Indonesia has reached the emergency level. So, can Indonesia achieve the target of free prostitution in 2019?
