REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Some 2,005 foreign migrants are currently being accommodated in 18 migration detention centers in North Sumatra, according to a local official.
The foreign migrants include 96 Myanmari and Bangladeshi nationals who were stranded in Pangkalan Susu waters, Langkat District, Herawan Sukoaji of the Medan Migration Office, stated here, recently.
Other migrants include those from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Eratria, and Iran.
"Most of them fled the conflicts in their countries," he noted.
The Medan migration office recently sent a letter to the Bangladesh embassy regarding 56 Bangladeshi migrants who require travel documents for their repatriation.
"In the meantime, we still await the central government's directives regarding 40 Myanmar nationals," he added.
