REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Director of Counseling, Services, and Public Relations of the Directorate General of Taxation, Mekar Satria Utama, said the plan to increase the threshold of income tax exemption (PTKP) will not be too intrusive for tax revenue.
"Acceptance will be compensated from the increase of workers spending through value-added tax (PPN)," said Mekar told Republika on Thursday, May 28.
As is known, Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro has filed subsequent to the House of Representatives (DPR) that the taxable income is over 36 million IDR per year or above 3 million IDR per month. Currently, PTKP imposed for a maximum income of 24 million IDR per year, or 2 million IDR per month.
Based on preliminary calculations of Directorate General of Taxation, said Mekar, the increase in taxable income will reduce the income tax of 1 trillion IDR. While the potential increase in VAT is not more than 1 trillion IDR.
Mekar explained, goverment expects the increasing threshold of PTKP will give multiplier effect on the economy. It is also expected to boost economic growth.
"From there, we expect tax revenues will also increase," she said.
