REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIGI -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he hopes Indonesia would become the world's largest producer of cacao bean in the next 5-6 years.
"Currently we are the third largest in the World. In 5-6 years we should be number one," Jokowi said in this Morowali town of Central Sulawesi, said on Friday, May 30.
He said in order to be number one in production, replanting should be consistently made to replace old plants and for that purpose fund injection is needed.
"We could be number one. I have visited cacao plantation several times, and I think it is not too difficult. What we need is determination," he said.
He said there is fund for cacao farmers set aside in thew state budget. "If I am not mistaken, this year it is Rp1.8 trillion and next year ti would be larger," he said.
He said he hoped Indonesia would no longer export cacao beans, but they should be processed in the country to produce finished product.
