REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has lauded a reconciliation between the two warring camps of the Golkar Party, which is one of the country's main parties.
"Yes, he welcomes it. We have said that the Golkar cadres can participate in the regional head elections in whatever way. We do not want a horizontal conflict, as it would affect political stability," Chairman of Soksi, an organization that set up the Golkar Party, Ade Komaruddin stated after meeting President Jokowi at the presidential palace, here, Wednesday.
In the meeting, he told the president that Soksi, during its latest national congress, has recommended a reconciliation of Golkar's warring camps.
The congress also recommended that the organization should support the development programs being carried out by the government.
"We also issued a political statement in the congress that in an effort to maintain democracy in Indonesia, which has run constitutionally, Soksi is determined to protect and support the current government until 2019. That is the statement of every cadre of Soksi throughout Indonesia," he noted.
On the occasion, Komaruddin also invited Jokowi to attend a Soksi award ceremony to be held in August this year.
He urged the president to present a Soksi award to Suhardiman, Soksi's founder, and to address the event.
