REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has proposed the name of former Jakarta Governor, Sutiyoso as a candidate for Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), to replace Marciano Norman, to the House of Representatives (DPR).
"Last night, I had discussed directly with President in Solo, about turnover of the military commander to General Gatot, and had received a letter including the issue of the Head of BIN. The President had appointed Sutiyoso to replace Marciano, "said Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Setya Novanto on Wednesday, June 10, quoted from setkab.go.id.
Besides Head of BIN, President Jokowi also appointed new TNI commander who will replace TNI Commander General Moeldoko, namely General Gatot Nurmantyo, who currently serves as the Chief of Army Staff.
According to Setya, President’s letter regarding the candidacy of General Gatot Nurmantyo as TNI commander and Sutiyoso as Head of BIN will be taken to the Consultative Council meeting before being brought to the plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR), and then will be performed the fit and proper test.
"Later in the procedure there will be fit and proper test in Committee I of DPR. Hopefully all procedure run well because it is the prerogative of President," said Novanto.
Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo at his residence in Solo, claimed to have consider the track record and competence before appointing Sutiyoso became Head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
"I've been through a lot of consideration and attention to the track record and competence of Mr. Sutiyoso," the President said at his residence at Jalan Jokowi North Kutai Source Solo, on Wednesday, June 10, quoted from Antara.
Jokowi explained his consideration to appoint Sutiyoso as the head of BIN because his track record in the intelligence and the military. President assessed Sutiyoso has experienced and competent enough to lead the intelligence agencies.
"Especially in the military and the intelligence, and I hope DPR give their consideration to the proposal," said Jokowi.
