REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The submission of Letnan General (retiree) Sutiyoso as a candidate of State Intelligence Agency (BIN)'s head became controversy. Executive Director of Imparsial saw there were five important records which underlined Sutiyoso difficulties as the new BIN's head.
"There are five important records that must be taken into consideration by President Joko Widodo in Sutiyoso’s nomination," said Executive Director of Imparsial Poengky Indarti in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Thursday, June 11.
First, Poengky said, Sutiyoso has a bad track record in human rights violations (HAM). Such as the case of Twenty Seven July Commotion (Kuda Tuli) when he became Commander of Military District.
"We'll see when the July 27, attack of PDIP office in Jakarta. There were alleged human rights violations at the time," said Poengky.
Second, when Sutiyoso served as Governor of Jakarta. Poengky said Sutiyoso known as governor who like to displacing house of Jakarta residents.
Third, Sutiyoso still have the track record of the Orde Baru era. Imparsial assessed Sutiyoso still have repressive ways of former President Soeharto.
"We worry that our intelligence apparatus will return to the Orde Baru era," said Poengky.
Fourth, Sutiyoso now serves as chairman of the party of Justice and Indonesia Unity (PKPI). Poengky was worried if BIN become a political institution because it is led by politicians.
"He is the chairman of the political parties and vulnerable to be politicized," said Poengky.
Lastly, Sutiyoso too old to be a head of BIN. Poengky assessed that the new Head of BIN supposedly younger, because, he will be the eyes and ears of the President.
"Its performance must also be more than the president," said Poengky.
However, unfortunately these records were ignored by President Jokowi with was filing Sutiyoso as the new Head of BIN. This shows the lack of commitment of the President on the issue of human rights and also did not have the sensitivity to the victims of human rights violations.
