REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government is preparing a new structure of the military (TNI) organization in which there will be a post of deputy commander. TNI Commander General Moeldoko said that position could be filled by the Air Force (AU).

"It could be from the Air Force," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 23. Moeldoko even had to repeat the answers up to three times.

He was optimistic that the deputy commander will not divide the military. Moeldoko claimed, TNI has a strong organization. The deputy commander, he said, it will strengthen the functioning of the organization in the military. "The deputy commander position will be more bite," he said.

Moeldoko said, the military has begun to prepare names that are considered able to occupy the new position. Nevertheless, he was still keeping the names.

Previously, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said the deputy commander will be selected by the military committee on officers' Rank and Promotion Council for High-Ranking Officers (Wanjakti). Then, the military commander will propose three names of deputy commander candidates to the president.

Deputy Commander, said Andi, will have a command function that was not owned by the Chief of General Staff (Kasum) TNI. Because, all this time command function was only held by the commander. President regulation on the structure of the military organization will regulate the command function which given to the deputy commander.
