REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Agus Supriatna said here on Wednesday that 91 bodies of the victims of the Hercules C-130 crash were found intact.

Besides providing 91 bags to carry the 91 bodies, the air force had added 50 more bags to bring the total number of bags available to 141, he stated at the Soewondo Airbase where the bodies of the victims were taken.

However, this does not mean that there were 141 victims as some of the additional bags only contained parts of bodies, he pointed out.

During evacuation procedures, all body parts are moved in bags, Supriatna added, explaining the need for additional bags.

Moreover, the Disaster Victim Identification Team of the police at Adam Malik Hospital in Medan is still in the process of identifying the body parts brought to the hospital, by trying to matching them with other parts to find the identities of the victims.

Spokesman for the Soewondo Airbase Major Sus Jhoni Tarigan noted that the ill-fated airplane carried a total of 122 passengers, including 12 crew members.

The passengers comprised 39 military officers, of which 33 were members of the air force and six were members of the army. The 93 others were civilians and family members of the military personnel.

All bodies and body parts were moved to Adam Malik Hospital from the crash site.

The military's Hercules C-130 transport plane crashed in Jalan Jamin Ginting, Medan, at around 12.00 hours on Tuesday.

It crashed several minutes after taking off from the Soewondo Airbase on its way to Pangkal Pinang in Riau Islands.
