REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo asked the ministers immediately to form Jabodetabek Transportation Authority. Jokowi said the agency's presence could accelerate the construction and development of transportation in Jakarta and its satellite towns in the vicinity.

"I think organizationally the agency is very necessary like in other countries," the president said when opening a closed meeting to discuss mass transportation in the President's office, on Monday, July 13.

The President explained further, after Jabodetabek Transportation Authority was established, the development of transport became the full responsibility of the institution. Thus, the decision to construct or expand transportation project could be taken at the level of institutions.

"Not necessarily every time on the closed meeting like this, it could be decided within the organization," said the former governor of Jakarta.

In the meeting this time, President Jokowi also instructed the minister to immediately start the project Light Rail Transit (LRT) which will connect Jakarta and surrounding cities. If it does not immediately begin, the construction costs will soar many times, because land prices continue to rise and more and more difficult to find land.

That, said Jokowi, already proven in the case of Mass Rapid Transit project that was built decades late. "For examples MRT in Jakarta was planning already 26 years old. But because of late been decided, so that when the construction is now difficult because the city has been very crowded," he said.
