REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former military chief General Moeldoko expressed belief that his successor General Gatot Nurmantyo would perform better in order to ensure a stronger and more solid Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI).
Speaking at the transfer of duty ceremony here on Tuesday, Moeldoko affirmed that his successor was expected to continue to carry forward his work, particularly related to the TNI's strategic plans to improve its personnel's prosperity, military capabilities, and equipment.
"I do believe General Gatot will do better and will make the TNI more solid and prosperous and be truly loved by the people," he remarked.
General Moeldoko also expressed gratitude to the personnel of the army, air force, and navy divisions who had performed their best during his leadership term and ordered them to help General Gatot in accomplishing his duties.
The transfer of duty ceremony was attended by Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti, former vice president Try Sutrisno, Chief of National Police Detective Division Commissioner General Budi Waseso, and several legislators, among others.
The House of Representatives (DPR) officially approved the candidacy of General Gatot for the post of TNI commander on July 3.
Before being installed as the military chief, General Gatot was the army chief of staff.
He had served as the governor of the Military Academy in the 2009-2010 period, the commander of the Brawijaya Military Regional Command in the 2010-2011 period, the commander of the Army Education Command between 2011 and 2013, and the commander of the Army Strategic Command.
