REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla chaired a meeting here on Tuesday to discuss efforts to coordinate to expedite the construction of power plants that are part of electricity projects in various regions.

The meeting was attended by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Indroyono Soesilo, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Sudirman Said, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, and Minister of Environmental Affairs and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, among others.
Chief of Presidential Staff Luhut Binsar Panjaitan and the president director of state electricity company PLN, Sofyan Basir, were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, the ESDM minister had said that his ministry will complete licensing procedures for the construction of power plants with a combined capacity of 35,000 megawatts within two months.
After Idul Fitri, a technical meeting will be held to recommend strategies to resolve issues related to the construction of the power plants, Said noted in Surabaya, East Java, recently.
The planned meeting was recommended during a coordinating meeting held on July 9 among the central government, governors of 16 provinces, and district heads from across the country.
Moreover, the government has identified five sectors, the development of which needs to be expedited for it to meet its targets in 2016.
These are the fields of shipbuilding, power generation, clean water supply, telecommunications, and railway.
