REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya chapter of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party has asked the party's central executive board to consider the nomination of Syamsul Arifin for the mayoral election in December.
"Last night, I told the central executive board that one of the political parties that is part of the Majapahit Coalition has recommended its candidate," Chief of the Surabaya Chapter of Gerindra Party B. F. Sutadi said on Tuesday.
He added that the central executive board should consider the nomination of Arifin, who is the chief of the Surabaya chapter of the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), for the post of the mayor of the city.
"However, as the branch executive board, we can only inform the central executive board, which has the authority to make the final decision, about the candidate. We are currently awaiting a decision from the central executive board," he stated.
Moreover, Sutadi, who is a former assistant I of the Surabaya city government, also denied an allegation that his party had officially picked Sukoto to run for the mayoral position by forming a coalition with the Democratic Party.
"That is not true. The party has not made any decision yet. Among the six parties that formed the Majapahit Coalition, only PKB has given its recommendation," he affirmed.
He further noted that the Majapahit Coalition remains strong and that none of its members had formed any smaller coalitions.
"The coalition, which comprises the Gerindra Party, PKB, the National Mandate Party, the Golkar Party, and the Democratic Party, remains solid and continues to function. Don't worry; we will nominate a pair of candidates for the position of the mayor as well as a running mate for the election," he remarked.
