REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The increase of fake diplomas to be one thing that should be wary in organizing the simultaneous local elections 2015. Because the fake diplomas were often used by regional heads candidates to gain supports.

Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Mohammad Nasir said the ministry will make the team to check the validity of the title of the prospective regional heads. By doing so, it will be known to the validity of the title or the diploma of candidates.

"After the registration from KPU (General Election Commission) has been finished and the titles are already included, all titles will be verified," said Nasir after signing a memorandum of understanding with KPU chairman Husni Kamil Manik at the Central of KPU, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 30.

He said, during the time that happened was titles and diplomas that used by the candidate only be verified by each campus. While, there were many campuses and courses that have not received permit from Kemenristekditi.

"They have not asked the permit, but issued a permit which did not fit, it is categorized as fake diplomas, including the title," said Nasir.

He continued, if the candidate was proved to wear fake titles and diplomas, would be followed to the realm of punishment in accordance with Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education.

"The maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine of Rp 1 billion for the person who issued the permit, and the receiver was 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million," he said.
