REPUBLIKA.CO. AMBON -- Maluku Governor Said Assagaff has planned to lead an underwater ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day in the Ambon sea on August 17, 2015.

The unique ceremony will be organized in cooperation with private TV station SCTV Maluku and the Indonesian marines, Zahlan Heluth of SCTV stated here on Tuesday.

The governor will attend a practice diving session on August 8, 2015, along with the trainers from the Indonesian Marines.

During the initial stage, the practice session will be held in a swimming pool owned by the Navy in Halong, Baguala sub-district, in Ambon, he noted.

A day prior to the flag-hoisting ceremony, a "Save Coral Reef" campaign will be held for planting some one thousand young coral reefs in the Ambon waters.

"Following the planting of coral reefs, Governor Assagaff will hold a teleconference with President Joko Widodo," he remarked.

The environmental campaign in Ambon is part of a national program to plant one million young coral reefs to be organized by the Indonesian Navy's Marine Corps across the country on August 16, 2015.

Apart from Ambon, the campaign will be organized in Weh Island in Sabang, Aceh Province; Lembeh Island; and Bitung in North Sulawesi.
