20 Years Ago, Indonesia had its first flight

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Twenty years ago, Ghatotkacha N250 aircraft made by PT Nusantara Aircraft Industry (IPTN) which was now PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) was official flown. The production process which was led by BJ Habibie became the milestone of science and technology in Indonesia. To commemorate it, every August 20th, Indonesia is celebrating the national science and technology day.

Ilham Akbar Habibie, one of the leaders of national science and technology, who is also the son of BJ Habibie, said that in the future, Indonesian children will create a variety of innovations. There should be a support from investors on the findings of the inventors. Therefore, there were a lot of good researches that can not be followed up because of the charge. For example, the production of N250 which was stopped because it was discontinued by the IMF.

"Today, we celebrated the first flight of N250 in Bandung. We know that even though N250 was a complex plane but it really could be produced. Unfortunately it was stopped by the IMF," said Ilham, in Tanjung Priok, Monday (10/8).

Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti), M Nasir, said the government continues to work together with various parties to improve science and technology. He was sure if the results of scientific research can be applied, our researcher will be more motivated.
