REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) will give a decade remission to 118 thousand prisoners during 70th Indonesian Independence Day. The remission will be granted to all prisoners except for those who were in death penalty, long life punishment, and escaping.
"There is no requirement in getting the decade punishment," said Head of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Corrections, Akbar Hadi, Monday (10/8).
According to him, the decade remissions refers to the Presidential Decree No. 120 of 1955 on the Special Criminal Reduction in Decade on Proclamation of Independence Day.
Remission that is granted is one-twelfth of a long sentence and a maximum of three months. Special Remission that is given per decade has been valid since 1955.
Akbar added that the remission is one way to force the prisoners to change their behavior to be better. "Because if they do not have good behavior then the remission will not be given," he said.
