REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo asked the Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonan, to improve the quality of airline fight service. This request was related to Trigana Air accident in Oksibil, Bintang Mountains, that carried 54 passengers.

"I talked with the Minister of Transportation by phone, and asked him to continuously improve the safety and the quality of our flight service,” said Jokowi, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (17/8).

Based on the reports received by Jokowi from Jonan last night, the Trigana Air plane was lost contact at 14:55 pm while in transit from Jayapura to Oksibil. Furthermore, the evacuation team had been heading to the location of the crash. Nevertheless, the efforts to rescue and evacuate the aircraft were hindered by the weather.

"Recently I received a report that the evacuation team is approaching the location of the crash. They were in four kilometers from the exact location. But since it was already evening and the weather wasn’t good, the evacuation process will be continued tomorrow morning," he explained.

He also hoped the evacuation team can arrive at the location tomorrow. The government has also prepared a helipad not far from the location to facilitate the evacuation of victims.
