REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla has noted that the automotive industry in Indonesia has surpassed Thailand, particularly in terms of the number of vehicles produced.
"We have created a good achievement. Indonesia has surpassed Thailand, especially in terms of the number of vehicles produced. Our production is higher than Thailand," Jusuf Kalla said after opening the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) here on Wednesday.
According to the vice president, the high output of autos reflects the large population of Indonesia, which requires a large number of cars.
Although the number of car vendors in Indonesia remains far behind Thailand, he said he believed the number of vendors would increase, due to the auto industry?s increasing capacity.
On the occasion, the vice president also toured the motor show. He remarked that the motor show was an opportunity to display the development and advancement of technology and industry, as well as cars.
The government also committed to taking advantage of environmentally friendly technologies.
"The use of environmentally friendly technology has been used by the government. The problem is not about regulations, but the weakening of the economy. As a result, car sales in Indonesia have declined," he said.
