REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA – Korem 172/PWY Colonel Sugiono said that the rescue teams faced difficulties in evacuating the victims of Trigana aircraft that crashed in Oksibil, Bintang Mountains, because of bad weather.

“Evacuation process by plane generally can’t be done because of the rain poured the accident location since morning,” Sugiono said, in Jayapura, Wednesday (19/8).

He explained that the visibility can only reach 50 meters. It bothered the evacuation of the 54 victims.

“In Oksob, the weather is bright and clear, while Oksibil is still raining,” he added.

The rescue teams are always ready to evacuate, after the rain stop and the planes are allowed to fly. The rescue teams will use helicopter Bell 212 Airfast and helicopter MI from the Army.

The 54 victims will be evacuated to Oksibil, then brought to Jayapura to be examined.
