REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEMATANG SIANTAR -- Money politic still haunted in the implementation of democracy in Indonesia. Chairman of the Assessment Agency, People Consultative Assembly (MPR), Bambang Sadono, recognized that money politic in many countries still existed. However, in Indonesia, money politic has massively happened.
According to Bambang, due to the money politics, a lot of people are afraid to run in the elections because they has no money. "It creates high cost democracy, so that the money politic was taken for granted," he said, in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, Thursday (20/8).
Due to the habit, a village in a region ever had a banner “We receive a dawn raid (money given in dawn by the election candidate). “It showed that our democratic culture is still weak,” he added.
Although there are legal rules which oversees money politic, Bambang said that the law is not strong enough. "The democratic system of our still can not make a quality elections," he regretted.
