REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- Fires started to burn three hectares of forests in Sukabumi. The cause was there were some residents who burned the land around the forests and the fire eventually spread. The fire was occurred in forest areas of Mount Walat (HPWG) in Cibadak, Friday (21/8) afternoon.
The fires were extinguished by joint team of the TNI, Police, and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Sukabumi. '' From the data of BPBD, forest fires of Mount Walat has happened twice in recent weeks,'' said the Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Sukabumi, Usman Susilo, Sunday (23/8).
Two previous case of fire were generally due to the burning fire in the land around the forests that eventually spread to the region of HPWG. The teams faced difficulties in extinguishing the flames, because the burned area can not be reached by the fire engines. It was located on a mountainside. So the fire extinguishing was using manual method, carrying water by plastics.
BPBD hoped that the local residents around the forest will not burn the land in the dry season. “Our citizens were appealed constantly to avoid burning,” said Usman.
