REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- The Sam Ratulangi airport of Manado, North Sulawesi was closed on danger from volcanic materials thrown to the air sent by angry mount Lokon.
"The volcano continued spewing forth hot volcanic dusts until this morning after strong eruption on Saturday night," an airport official said on Sunday.
Ilham Sakti, the spokesman of the state owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, said the volcano erupted at 23.46 local time.
"We close the airport at least until 09.00 this morning. The condition makes it impossible for us to allow flights," Ilham said.
He said many passengers have to wait until condition is normal, adding fortunately all aircraft already landed before the eruption on Saturday night.
The volcano already showed signs of greater activities since Friday.
