REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA –- PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) was in collaboration with the National Shipping Company of Indonesia (Pelni), and PT ASDP Ferry Indonesia, to take advantage of natural gas as fuel for marine transportation.
The three state-owned enterprises’ cooperation agreement was signed by Director of PGN Hendi Prio Santoso, Director of Pelni Elfien Goentoro, and Director of ASDP Danang S. Baskoro, witnessed by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Rini Soemarno, Thursday (3/9). PGN, Pelni, and ASDP jointly undertook preparatory studies of infrastructure and technology development, related to the use of natural gas fuel for ships.
Minister of (SOE), Rini Soemarno, said ships from Pelni and ASDP will convert oil fuel (BBM) to gas, in form of liquefied natural gas or LNG. Rini added, the use of LNG as a fuel could be an accelerator in realizing maritime programs. She considered, the use of gas fuel is more efficient and environmentally friendly.
"The synergy of SOEs should be encouraged to make the performance of SOEs be more efficient and competitive," said Rini, Thursday (3/9).
Director of PGN, Hendi Prio Santoso, said he will continue to encourage the use of natural gas in various development sectors, including marine transportation and crossings. PELNI recorded, their ships used 33.4 million liters of oil fuel per month. Meanwhile, ASDP used 3.5 million liters of oil fuel per month.
