REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NEW DELHI -- At least 20 people were killed due to lightning in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, local media reported.

The Indo-Asian News Service quoted officials as saying heavy rains lashed the state under the impact of low pressure from Bay of Bengal.

Many part of India come under lightning strikes due to heavy rains during the monsoon season from June to October.

The rains also led to flooding of low-lying areas and inundated roads, affecting the movement of traffic in Andhra Pradesh and some neighboring states, said the report.

Meanwhile, some parts of India have come under heavy rains which led to flood.

In the northeast state of Assam, over 30 have been killed over the past several days due to flood and rain related incidents.
