REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Foreign workers in Jambi were dominated by Chinese workers. They mostly worked in plantation and industrial companies.
Head of Labor Inspection of Social Service of Manpower and Transmigration (Dinsosnakertrans) Jambi, Zulpan, said that there are currently 218 foreign workers in Jambi, and 164 of them are from China.
"They mostly work as technical personnel, of the total workers, they widely worked in PT PetroChina which is engaged in oil and gas," said Zulpan, Sunday (6/9).
He explained, permits for foreign workers were given by Ministry of Labor. Then the foreign workers are under provincial government supervision.
"We are also always doing surveillance for those who work as laborers," he added.
He said the Labor Inspection always supervise normatively, especially in permission to use foreign workers (IMTA) and plan to use foreign workers (RPTKA), which has limited time of one year.
"We always carry out the supervision of foreign workers and they must be accompanied by the local workforce," he said.
He stated that the foreign workers are forbidden to have certain positions, such as manager. To ensure, the Labor Inspection also supervise the position of the foreign workers in companies.
