Jakarta's LRT environment-friendly transportation system

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Adhi Karya (Persero), an Indonesian state-owned enterprise of construction, launched accelerated development of Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, Wednesday (9/9). The launch was marked by the installation of piles (ground breaking) by President Joko Widodo.

"LRT is one of environment-friendly mass transportation which its construction will be done with elevated system above toll and non-toll roads," said Director of Adhi Karya, Kiswodarmawan, in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, Wednesday (9/9).

He explained, elevated system can minimize land acquisition and optimize lands that have been owned by the government. According to technical data, LRT construction consists of two stages with a total length of 83.6 km.

Each stage consists of three crosses, ie phase I is Cibubur-Cawang, East Bekasi-Cawang, Cawang-Dukuh Atas with 18 stations and a length of 42.1 km, and phase II is Cibubur-Bogor, Dukuh Atas-Palmerah-Senayan and Palmerah-Grogol with a length of  41.5 km.

Daily haulage by six set train is 24 thousand passengers per day with the operating speed of 60-80 km/h.

"The infrastructure consists of pile foundation with diameter of 100 cm and 80 cm, which aims for rapid construction," said Kiswodarmawan.

For the implementation of the construction, the first phase will begin in final quarter of 2015 and will be completed by 2016. The second phase will begin in final quarter of 2016 and will be completed by the end of 2019.

He added that to realize the construction of LRT, Adhi Karya has obtained approval of State Capital Participation (PMN) in the state budget of 2015 at Rp 1.4 trillion and by public at Rp 1.35 trillion to support the company's capital.
