REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Energy researcher, Fabby Tumiwa, said Indonesia's decision in joining the international association of oil producers (OPEC) after seven years, was a positive step.

"Indonesia has no oil exports, but gas export. May be it's necessary to join the OPEC again," he told Republika, Wednesday (9/9).

By joining back to OPEC, Indonesian government will have access and information that determines the oil price in the future. So that the government has a strategy, because in OPEC session there are discussions to discuss the issue.

Although Indonesia joined as an observer, not a full member of OPEC, but Indonesia will have access to oil producers.

"The biggest challenge in this country is how to protect our oil supplies, not to be disrupted," he added.
