Government spends Rp 600 billion to overcome haze

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The haze from forest and land fires occurred every year. Each year, the government spent hundreds of billions rupiah to overcome the problem of haze.

Head of Data, Information and Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, stated the government through BNPB provided a budget of Rp 380 billion for haze mitigation haze until September 2015.

"The budget will possibly rise," said Sutopo, Wednesday (23/9).

Sutopo said the budget to overcome haze was likely to rise, because last year, the cost to prevent haze reached Rp 600 billion. The budget will increase because of haze was predicted to be getting longer due to prolonged elnino and dry season.

BNPB, still have budget of Rp 2.5 trillion to be used, if there was an additional fund. The budget can be used for handling all disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and forest fires.
