REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR -- The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has repatriated 28 Indonesian citizens who had fallen victim to human trafficking crimes in the country.

In a statement received here on Wednesday, the embassy said 28 women were evacuated from the Malaysian Women Protection Center.

According to the embassy, at least 27 victims were swindled by the leader of the trafficking ring, Iyadh Mansour.

Iyadh runs a crime syndicate involved in human trafficking and had sent the victims to the Middle Eastern region through Malaysia last August.

Another victim of a similar crime, Riamis, was also repatriated by the embassy. Riamis worked in Kelantan, Malaysia for two years without being paid and had to suffer poor treatment.

Besides, the embassy also repatriated four Indonesian citizens who were suffering from some form of illness. They were Benni, Dede Julia, Ngatini and Yani.

The Indonesian authorities had earlier also evacuated three illegal migrant workers, namely, Munah, Isah and Zupmiati.

The Indonesian government will repatriate the victims to their hometowns and will provide healthcare to the sick.

The Directorate of Indonesian Citizens' Protection and Legal Affairs of the Foreign Ministry will investigate several agencies which had sent the three Indonesian migrant workers abroad through illegal procedures.
