REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia has the maximum number of education research centers among the Southeast Asian countries, an official has said.
"Indonesia has six research centers, while Thailand has five and Singapore has one research center," Head of the Communication and Partnership Division of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Fuad Hasan, said here on Wednesday.
The six research centers in Indonesia are SEAMEO Regional Center for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP), SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMEO SEAMOLEC), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Food and Nutrition (SEAMEO RECFON), SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (SEAMO QITEP) in Language, SEAMO QITEP in Science, and SEAMO QITEP in Mathematics.
Indonesia hosts these six centers, thanks to the initiative that its education and culture ministers undertook in cooperation with experts from Southeast Asia, he said.
SEAMEO RECFON Deputy Director for Resource Management Miranti Martin said SEAMO was set up to promote cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture in Southeast Asia through networking, partnership and setting up forums between policy makers and experts. The aim was to encourage the sustainable development of human resources.
During the years of its existence, SEAMEO has made great contributions to the development of the education sector in the region.
